Take-Two to pay $20 million in Hot Coffee suit, will recoup with next years' releases.
Shacknews is reporting today that publisher Take-Two has settled its class action suit concerning the Hot Coffee scandal in
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The company has agreed to pay $20 million dollars in a suit that claimed Take-Two knew the Hot Coffee sex game was in the final retail product. Stauss Zelnick, Take-Two chairman, sees the conclusion of this situtaion as, "another important step forward for the Company."
In related news,
Shacknews is also reporting on a Take-Two investor call that aimed to pinpoint the release window for the company's biggest titles next year. According to Take-Two CEO Ben Feder,
BioShock 2,
Max Payne 3,
Mafia II and
Red Dead Redemption will all release between the months of February and June next year.
Tyler says: 20 million bucks is nothing to sneeze at, but when you look at the estimated day-one sales figures of Grand Theft Auto IV --
reportedly earning $310 million in sales in 24 hours -- you realize Take-Two can handle it.
As far as Take-Two's releases for next year, it looks like we'll get about one amazing game a month from the publisher. As for which will come out first and which will be last, I'll wager it'll be BioShock 2 and Max Payne 3 respectively (with the chance that Max Payne 3 will be delayed to fall 2010).
