 |  | What I'm Playing Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is a fine, fine sequel. Half-Life 2 might be the best sequel ever, and Halo 2 is really rocking my world. There are actually too many good games on my plate at the moment, and only a finite number of hours in the day. My experiences with Gordon Freeman's new adventure are nothing short of mind-blowing. I can't believe how good Half-Life 2 really is. It's the prettiest, coolest, and baddass-est game I've played in a long, long time. I'm looking forward to playing and replaying it over and over again.

 | | What I'm Playing Sequels, sequels, sequels! Every game I'm hooked on this week has a "2" after it. Some of these are no surprises. Half-Life 2 is incredible: at heart it's just a first-person shooter, but it mixes it up with so many great story elements and gameplay angles that I can't stop playing. The real surprise this week is just how addicted I've been to Tony Hawk. I mean, I've got Halo 2 sitting RIGHT THERE, but I kept putting in Tony Hawk instead. I think it's because playing Halo 2 is a real commitment, and THUG 2 is more of a "goof around for half an hour" game. I love it. I think I've achieved some new sort of Zen level of Tony Hawk consciousness wherein I zoom off of the ramp and become one with the sky. My skillz are still pretty weak compared to others at GameSpy -- and maybe that's why I can't stop playing it, 'cuz I still have room to improve. That, and the ending of the story mode cracked me up. "Save the critters!!"

 | | What I'm Playing It's all Nintendo all the time for the most charming console editor GameSpy has ever hired. I'm prepping my Pokémon Leaf Green cartridge for my 2005 New Year's resolution to capture all 384 critters. I've been adventuring with Sora, Goofy, and Donald through various Disney locales in Chain of Memories. And I've been on a Pete Sampras-like tear through the world of Mario Power Tennis. Will and Miguel can shoot things all they want in Halo 2 and San Andreas, but my Nintendo systems will be keeping giga happy … especially when the DS is out in less than a week.
