Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona and operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of THQ, Rainbow Studios was one of the largest video game developers in the Southwest and developed premier original and licensed titles for current and next generation console systems. Rainbow's development teams included veterans of live action production, pioneers of CG and leaders in advanced technology. At Rainbow, its creative employees worked in critical disciplines: Design, Art, Animation, Engineering, Production, Audio, Quality Assurance, and Administration. The studio hired employees from all over the world, and locally it had recruited from the Phoenix Art Institute, University of Advancing Technology, Collins College, DeVry University, and Arizona State University.
This studio became THQ Digital Studios Phoenix in 2010. THQ was forced to eliminate the development team in August of 2011 after it decided not to continue the ATV vs. MX racing franchise as part of a strategic realignment of its internal studio development teams.
