2009 was the first year in 11 years that I didn't physically attend the show; something that I had mixed feeling about honestly. On the plus side, killing myself running around the LA Convention Center isn't really all that much fun so that was a win. But on the flipside I missed out on seeing all of the new games in the flesh and the camaraderie of being part of an active team.
Thanks to the power of the Internet and a reasonably stable net connection, however, I was able to watch all of the major press conferences from the comfort of my own office and while the hours were long (longer in fact for me working from the GMT time zone) it was still a pretty fulfilling experience.

Did I psychically know that Aliens vs. Predator would be a smash hit at the show?
So let's review my predictions:
Prediction #1: Okay, so Nintendo didn't apologize for last year's shite performance, and we didn't get to see anything on the new Wii Zelda title (although at a roundtable Q&A later that day, Miyamoto did confirm that the game will more than likely debut at E3 2010) but I was right on about a new Mario title. In fact, we got two: New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2. This goes a long way to making core Nintendo players happy, and I'm sure the announcement of the new Metroid: Other M also lit a few fires of excitement.
Prediction #2: I'm still waiting to see how Aliens vs. Predator ranks among the inevitable Best of Show awards that are being prepped (our own included) as I type. I think I might have been a bit off-base suggesting that it'll make everyone's top lists, but for me this is still one of the must-haves of 2010.
